Why I Left the Big Agencies to Build Belle Vie

Jessica shares the experiences that led her to create a better kind of cleaning company.

I didn't plan to start a business

I planned to do good work. That's why I started cleaning homes. That's why I took on more clients, and eventually a role managing crews and schedules for a large cleaning agency.

But the more I saw of how those agencies run, the more I realized: the system isn't built around doing a great job. It's built around fitting as many homes into a day as possible.

What I saw on the front lines

As a cleaner, I saw the best and worst of the industry. The best: the satisfaction of handing a family back a spotless home. The worst: impossible routes that left no time to do the job properly, and bouncing between different homes every single day with no chance to learn what each client actually wanted.

I'd arrive with barely enough time to rush through the basics. That's not the standard I wanted to be known for.

What I saw managing crews

When I moved into scheduling and management, I thought I could fix things from the inside. Instead, I saw the full picture: how routes prioritized volume over quality, how cleaners were shuffled between clients like interchangeable parts, and how clients had no one to talk to when something was missed.

The breaking point

There wasn't one moment. It was hundreds. But the pattern was clear: the system prioritized filling the schedule over doing the work right. Clients wanted the same trusted cleaner, and cleaners wanted the time to take pride in their work.

Building the opposite

Belle Vie Care is everything those agencies aren't:

Small by design — because boutique means better

The same cleaner each time — because your home isn't a slot on a route

A clear checklist — because you should know exactly what you're getting

Cleaners valued — because great work starts with respected, fairly paid people

I didn't start Belle Vie because I read a business book. I started it because I spent years watching the industry cut corners on the people it was supposed to serve — on both sides of the door.
